Research on Tribal Video Game Participation
Over the last several years, the world of gaming and esports has seen large shifts in communications, technology, and access. A group significantly impacted by these shifts are tribal communities, and more specifically, tribal youth. Despite barriers to participate and consume, tribal youth are engaged in gaming, and it is becoming a significant aspect of tribal youth culture.
To date, little research has been conducted on gaming in this unique population and this research project looks to further our understanding. Specifically, this project will utilize a mixed methods approach in collecting quantitative survey data along with qualitative one on one interviews to better understand the interests, habits, and intentions surrounding gaming amongst tribal youth.
The results of this project and a deeper understanding of gaming in tribal youth culture could lead to advances in career development, community building, and infrastructure expansion in Indian Country.
